Timeline
Iteration 1: Sister’s Shadow move from idea to example
Sister’s Shadow began development in the summer of 2024 as a solo project. Over two months, I created a playable prototype inspired by classic survival horror titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The demo featured key foundational systems, including zombie AI, basic combat, map progression, an interaction system, and a fully root motion-driven character controller. Although development was cut short, the core idea showed strong potential and remained worth pursuing.
The Prototype
After a short break, I pitched the concept to others and assembled a small team. Over the following four months, we rebuilt and expanded on the prototype’s foundations. A major focus was creating flexible systems, something the original lacked. We also redesigned the world layout and discussed the story. We ended up with a completely traversable map, and a minimap to aid in exploration. These systems served as a solid showcase for future content development. It proved that it was possible.
Testing the waters
Iteration 2: Creating the world and capturing the feel of the game
Getting serious
Iteration 3: Developing Sister’s Shadow in earnest
After a long break working on other projects it was time to come back and discuss Sister’s Shadow again. I reached out to my good friend Kay to gauge interest in working together in a developer led studio. Since we already had proved the prototype and systems worked we decided that Sister’s Shadow would be the perfect start. Thus we began to slowly work on an official Sister’s Shadow title.
